*** This is a work in progress being built around an improvisational score.
This work seeks to posit dance as a vital form of narrative journalism. On February 28, 2026, my child was born with neonatal asphyxia. When she finally started breathing, the midwife declared, "Ah! She is displaying a good grimace..." On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel bombed Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary school, killing 150 school-aged girls. These incidents are connected. This solo seeks to understand this connection.

What is this space? The space in between here and way over there? It is desolate, incomplete.
And I arrive, awake and trying to press forward. Through, not around. Causing a rupture of sorts. My heart is there too. The feeling part. The thing that seeks to understand, pumps the life force, and keeps the rhythm. And somehow, still, dusk is on the horizon.
What’s holding me in this moment?
…I think it’s madness. This world is a devastating place. And still the wildflowers seem to bloom in the spring. The cicadas yell wildly at us. And the rain falls...That has to be a kind of madness…A kind of insanity: Repeating the same actions, knowing nothing will change…Nihilism? Afropessimism? Death? I don’t know. What I do know is that life is inevitable. And we will not be the last beings to walk this earth. Nature always finds a way to right itself.
